We're working on a mechanical project

Though this is a kind of a "secret project", we're working on some mechanical tasks now.

Our goal is pretty neat and unique, and hoping to have a great impact for those who ... I dare say who have an ordinary life :)

The above is a picture of a usb servo (motion) controller.

What for?

It is a top secret project though, but you'll see this by the end of this year, I hope.

New targeting ads pirates privacy?

Rakuten, No.1 EC company in Japan, has launched a new targeting ads system, "Rakuten Ads 4U." a couple months ago.

Capture_Image_1008_0001.png

This ads system collects and analyzes user's web history, not only from its own ads network, but from all the web site.

The technique is pretty unique, or I should say, "violate".

They put thousands of external links on their flash embed components, and check if the users had ever visited each of the external links by obtaining the "visited" style sheet property.

This is thought to be a kind of bugs of the css and javascript specification.

I admit they are wise enough to cheat this feature, but this would be a piracy for the user's privacy, and I believe they should not use this technique to do better targeting ads delivery.

I should list up all the web sites they are sneaking into our web history to grab our preferences...

About Japan: sources for foreign people

I have no idea what is the best "English" off-line source for the non-Japanese people.

However, I sometimes see those free papers and/or magazines at the restaurants owned by non-Japanese owner.

J@pan Inc might be a good magazine for you to subscribe, provided that you are mainly focused on the small to mid-size businesses.

Capture_Image0016.jpg

seekjapan offers a free paper named "Japanzine."
Japanzine has full of ads, so this might be a good source for you to keep track on what's happening in Japan.

Of course, there are plenty of web sites for non-Japanese (English spoken) people, but sometimes "off-line" media works better than online.

If you have any recommendations, I'd happy to know that :)

Yammer - is the best leading service?

Capture_Image0011.jpg

Yammer is now famous for being a winner of the TechCrunch 50.

However, I have no idea what the challenging point of this service is.
It is just a twitter for a company. That's it.
There are many twitter clone products out there, and why now yammer?

For me, GoodGuide looked more interesting.

Their presentation was great, and the concept of the service is very clear, though I hope we could live in a safer world that doesn't need this kind of service :)
